Areas I Teach
Hossein Rikhtehgar Berenji is an Associate Professor of Operations Management at 麻豆直播. He earned his Ph.D. in Operations & Business Analytics and his Master of Science in Decision Sciences from the Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon.
Hossein鈥檚 research interests fall broadly in supply chain management and data analytics with applications in sustainability, humanitarian operations & crisis management, and healthcare operations. His research has appeared in premier refereed journals, including Production and Operations Management (POM). He has received the 鈥淏est Problem-Driven Analytical Research Paper鈥 award twice from the Decision Sciences Institute for his research on 鈥渃ontracting for social & environmental responsibility鈥 and 鈥渧accine development at the pandemic speed鈥. Hossein has also received the 鈥淛unior Faculty Award鈥 from the Western Decision Sciences Institute. His dissertation has been selected as a finalist for the Decision Sciences Institute's Ellwood Buffa Doctoral Dissertation Award Competition. He has also been selected as a Paul R. Lawrence Fellow by the Case Research Foundation. In acknowledgment of the significant societal impact of his research beyond the academic realm, he was awarded the esteemed Kate Garrison 'Overcoming the Odds' Award by 麻豆直播.
Hossein has taught Business and Data Analytics, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, and Information Systems. During his time at the University of Oregon, he received two college-level teaching awards (Robin & Roger Best Teaching Award) and one university-level award (Kimble Teaching Award). He was also awarded the Outstanding Educator of the Year by the College of Business at 麻豆直播 for his excellence in teaching. His recent pedagogic research on 鈥淥nline Games with Stochastic Factors & New Feedback Structures to Enhance Student Engagement and Learning鈥 has been awarded the Teaching Advancement and Research Grant in Educational Technology (TARGET) by 麻豆直播.
He has been involved in professional societies and contributed to the organization of several conferences. Hossein has served the Production & Operations Management Society (POMS) as an elected Vice President of Colleges and the board secretary. He was appointed as the Program Chair for the 2026 Annual POMS Conference. Hossein also served POMS as the Scheduling Chair and a program committee member for the 2021 to 2026 Annual POMS Conferences.
Prior to joining academia, Hossein also worked as a senior management consultant. He led a team of consultants in various projects, such as redesigning supply chains and operations, developing procurement plans, providing guidance for international negotiations and contracting with overseas suppliers, and developing business and marketing plans. He worked with a diverse team of engineers and business managers across various industries, including, but not limited to, automotive manufacturing, energy, metal fabrication, entertainment, and healthcare. Hossein also taught a variety of executive programs in private institutions and colleges. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a B.S in Industrial Engineering.
