Why Earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education?

The bachelor of arts in music education at Pacific is an underÂé¶¹Ö±²¥ program designed for students who are interested in majoring in music education but are not fully committed to earning teaching licensure at the underÂé¶¹Ö±²¥ level. Pacific students who earn a bachelor of arts in music education degree prepare for a music education career by focusing on three competencies during their underÂé¶¹Ö±²¥ studies:
- Music competencies: Students take courses in music theory, ear training, piano proficiency, and history of music, among other courses.
- Teaching competencies: Students take courses in elementary and secondary methods, technique courses, and conducting, among other courses.
- Performance competencies: Students take weekly private lessons and perform in a variety of small and large ensembles.
What Can You Do with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education Degree?
Pacific Âé¶¹Ö±²¥s with a bachelor of arts in music education possess the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions needed to enter a Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ education program that leads to a teaching license. All states require teachers to have a valid teaching license if they are to teach music in Pre-K-12 music education settings. Students who earn their BA in music education at Pacific can prepare to become licensed teachers by adding on a Master of Arts in Teaching.
Students who are intend to become licensed teachers may also be interested in Pacific's Bachelor of Music Education, which directly prepares students for teacher licensure.

Teach Music
Our nationally-recognized after school music education program, the Music Education Project, provides our underÂé¶¹Ö±²¥ music education students with an unique opportunity to practice their teaching skills in the early years of their studies at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥. Under the supervision of Pacific faculty, music education students teach local youth in group and individual band, strings, and voice lessons, culminating in community concerts.
